Porn: Coming to a public school near you…

Thanks to Common Core Standards.

I wish this were just a sick and twisted joke.

It’s not.

I was unsure of whether or not to write a post on this due to the disgustingly graphic nature. I have wrestled with it for a couple of days. However, I think it is important that we be informed, and that we inform parents of public schooled children what is coming their way – or has already landed in their hands.

One of the books on the CCS 11th grade exemplar is “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison.  The CCS curriculum preferred bookseller lists the book description as, “An Eleven-Year-Old African-American Girl In Ohio, In The Early 1940s, Prays For Her Eyes To Turn Blue So That She Will Be Beautiful.

If you go to the Common Core website, they give this as an excerpt of the text:

One winter Pauline discovered she was pregnant. When she told Cholly, he surprised her by being pleased. He began to drink less and come home more often. They eased back into a relationship more like the early days of their marriage, when he asked if she were tired or wanted him to bring her something from the store. In this state of ease, Pauline stopped doing day work and returned to her own housekeeping. But the loneliness in those two rooms had not gone away. When the winter sun hit the peeling green paint of the kitchen chairs, when the smoked hocks were boiling in the pot, when all she could hear was the truck delivering furniture downstairs, she thought about back home, about how she had been all alone most of the time then too, but that this lonesomeness was different. Then she stopped staring at the green chairs, at the delivery truck; she went to the movies instead. There in the dark her memory was refreshed, and she succumbed to her earlier dreams. Along with the idea of romantic love, she was introduced to another—physical beauty. Probably the most destructive ideas in the history of human thought. Both originated in envy, thrived in insecurity, and ended in disillusion. In equating physical beauty with virtue, she stripped her mind, bound it, and collected self-contempt by the heap. She forgot lust and simple caring for. She regarded love as possessive mating, and romance as the goal of the spirit. It would be for her a well-spring from which she would draw the most destructive emotions, deceiving the lover and seeking to imprison the beloved, curtailing freedom in every way.

This is an excerpt, selected by Common Core, and is accompanied by this statement: (emphasis added) When excerpts appear, they serve only as stand-ins for the full text. The Standards require that students engage with appropriately complex literary and informational works; such complexity is best found in whole texts rather than passages from such texts.

However, what is glaringly absent from this excerpt are the many graphic pages that cover rape, incest and pedophilia from the perpetrator’s point of view. In fact, the author of the book says that she wanted the reader to  feel as though they are a “co-conspirator” with the rapist.  She also describes the pedophilia, rape and incest as “friendly,” “innocent,” and “tender.”

This makes me want to vomit – violently!

It’s utterly disgusting!

Here is a link to what public schooled 16-17 year olds will be reading, thanks to Common Core Standards. Pardon me, 14-17 year olds; I just found out that in at least one state it is on the freshman reading list. 😦

Warning: it is extremely graphic!

Please scroll down past the excerpts if you:

1. Are under 21 years old.

2. Have ever struggled with a porn addiction.

3. Have ever been sexually abused. Trust me, the nightmares just aren’t worth it, but please read beyond the excerpts to get a fuller understanding of what is going on.

There was something else that I noticed. Another homeschool mom noticed it as well, and this is what she had to say,

“I know we are all enraged as we read, glimpse, try not to read the article about CCSS forcing pornography to 15-17 year olds. But I did something that was hard to do, I reread it and this is what I saw beneath the filth, the rape the incest. PURE HATRED OF GOD! Did you see it? Did you see the last name of the rapist? It is Church. That is not by accident. Blame the Church always blame the Church. And did you see that he also said ““I work only through the Lord. He sometimes uses me to help people.” After years of kicking God out of school they bring Him in long enough to make you hate Him!
There is an agenda and this is it! Our battle is not against Flesh and blood”

God help us and our children!

  1. I came here from Tanya’s FB page. Thanks for sharing. I have been vehemently opposed to the Common Core for over a year now, but this takes the cake.

  2. The other Homeschool mom is me, Bobbie Howard. I love the way you made this Face book acceptable . Since #3 applied to me I will tell you, If the LORD has not healed your pain, if you struggle with PTSD in any amount, DO NOT CLICK THE LINKS. Just accept that this is evil beyond any explanation and PRAY for the children in the classrooms. because some 14-17 yo will be in that class, she will know it was unimaginable pain and terrorizing FEAR that made her faint and the PTSD she experiences in the classroom can be exhibited in horrifying manners. PRAY!

  3. Ok, maybe I’m not remember the story right, but I don’t remember any of those excerpts from The Bluest Eye. I’ve read it more than once, but it has been a few years. I do, however, remember the one about the woman faking the big “O” for her husband, but I don’t see that as very graphic. The rest of it is, yes, but I don’t remember any of those from the book. Maybe I need to read it again…
I don’t see this as an attack on the Church. An attack against racism, yes, but not the Church directly. We are inundated with anti-racist propaganda from the day we crawl out of our crib until the day we close our eyes in final rest. I see this as an attack against the “racism” of Christian right-wing fundamentalists.

    Just my opinion.

    1. Sarah, thank you for your comment. If you wish to check these references, the book is free to download online.
I do feel the excerpt about her faking the “O” is graphic and especially inappropriate for teens. However, I respect your opinion.

    2. I too respect your opinion, but I totally disagree. As a Christian we are the gate keeper to our children’s soul and we have to guard them from stuff that will “potentially cause them to stumble”. Why is is necessary to read such garbage? What will it “teach” them? I just don’t understand the logic. The racism is there yes, but to stop it is to stop encouraging it. Stuff like this “if it is an attack on racism” is not helping the racism to stop. Lack of fuel the fire goes out. Much wisdom in that! The attach on the church to me is forcing a child to read something they shouldn’t have to due to religious convictions. Yeah you may say you aren’t forced but then you are labeled and then we are back to a type of racism. It is a vicious cycle.

Current federal law makes clear that the U.S. Department of Education may not be involved in setting specific content standards or determining the content of state assessments. Nevertheless, the selection criteria designed by the U.S. Department of Education for the Race to the Top Program provided that for a state to have any chance to compete for funding, it must commit to adopting a “common set of K-12 standards” matching the description of the Common Core.

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Common Core, it is a curriculum created in the private sector but pushed onto states by the federal government and endorsed by Bill Gates. The cost of implementing the program runs from millions to billions depending on the state. It is untested and unresearched. It has been criticized for being not as rigorous as proponents claim, clearly biased to a liberal perspective, so much so that many see it as indoctrination, and it is being forced on the states in spite of the fact that a federal curriculum is unconstitutional violating the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution which established the principle that“…the “power” to oversee education belongs to the states. This longstanding principle of local control of education is reiterated throughout our laws and government codes.”

It’s just messed up and I personally just pray God will open the eyes of those that call themselves Christians. God have Mercy!

  4. My friend, these passages are not pornographic, but then they are definitely not literature either. However you are right to complain if you as an individual find this offensive. However if you complain you must be prepared to offer a solution to the problem that fulfills the need this book fills in the overall design of the educators.

    1. Robert, I’m not sure what your definition of ‘pornographic’ is, but according to the dictionary they are definitely pornographic. No child should read this!
You are correct that I do have the right to complain. I find this offensive, disgusting, and psychologically/emotionally destructive – especially to those who have suffered this type of abuse.
I do NOT have to offer a solution to this book. There is no worth while educational value for young people in this offensive writing.
However, if one wishes to read good literature dealing with the serious issues of rape and racism, I would suggest they read “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

    2. That is a down and out lie. There is no need for this book or subject matter being used in schools. Why in the world would there be a NEED? Maybe because of the overall design of the educators perhaps? Your words, not mine. As for not being pornographic, those excerpts are as pornographic and titillating as they come. The very descriptive words used for something heinous and passed off as literature doesn’t make it so. There is a depravity in the minds of those who wish to perpetuate this sort of thing that is truly suffocating. The passing off as being acceptable, harmless reading? Well let me just say for those of us who have suffered sexual abuse and more importantly for those who will be sitting in those classrooms being taught this garbage you can’t imagine the terrible feeling of having no safe place to turn. Even those in authority that you have been taught to trust, that trust will be broken. Talk about feeling as if you are going crazy! Every fiber of your being telling you this is wrong and yet right there in the classroom they are telling you it’s okay. I won’t even go into all the other aspects of the problems this can bring out. This is nothing but legalized porn and I have to ask who is benefiting? Certainly not the students!

  5. in answer to Robert….why do teens/children need to learn about racism and rape through literature? Why not present research and personal testimony of the victims? Why not let them watch anything by Jackson Katz? or Tim Wise? Why must they read sex? we have way too many teen pregnancies out there, why promote teen sex? This whole thing just shows how very unChrist-like our nation has become!

  6. I know a book better than any other. It is filled with scandal and murder. It deals with racism. There are giants and monsters. There is war and crime and yes even sex. There is a conclusion this book shows that to every action the is a consequence and that through love we can win any battle. This book is the bible it should be in the Non-fiction section of every school. I also think it should be on the reading list. The greatest book ever written……. God will always be present, our society keeps trying to push him out and away we need to take a look back and remember just where we come from. A country who’s foundation was on the rock of God. George Washington said without God we would crumble and fall. I have a problem when people try to remove my God. They get things confused and forget just who he is. This includes most christians as well we have forgotten the great people we are. The Power that we have. It is high time that we take our schools, towns, cities, and countries back. Knowing the time it is high time. AND IT IS HIGH TIME TO TAKE A STAND

    1. It is also time to pray. The power of prayer is not talked about enough. We need to pray individually, as churches, and as a nation. We must speak up in church. We must unite as a people. We must do so with love for our fellow man. What is happening in our schools and communities and nation is sickening to us…..just try to imagine how it sickens our Lord. Let’s make him proud of us as a people…as a nation. Let us rise up and take action, guided by prayer. Sites like this are great, but this is kind of preaching to the choir (except for Robert). We need to spread the Good Word. The Lord will help us if we only ask.
Common Core is evil. The more you learn about it, the more it will scare you. The ultimate goal is to acquire so much data on our children that ‘they’ (the government) can ‘guide’ them toward a vocation to which they are suited. The government will gather this data through testing, using cameras, wristbands, special chairs and special handheld mouse controllers. The cameras will do retinal scans and record facial responses to the tests. The wristbands, chairs and controllers will detect pulse, sweat, fidgeting, etc. in order to know with which areas the test taker is comfortable/uncomfortable. This data will be gathered from preschool through graduation from senior high. Then the student will be ‘guided’ toward whatever area the government has determined he/she is best suited. The tests will determine the curriculum. The tests are being developed by progressive entities. Our nation, as we have known it, is at risk. We must get involved in groups. We must communicate our wishes to our representatives. I strongly recommend that everyone get up to speed on Common Core as soon as possible and start going to school board meetings. I want to thank those who are way ahead of me on this subject. I feel as if I’m 13 years behind. I plan to start with September’s school board meeting. I will attend any anti-Common Core event I can find. I will write my representatives. I will speak up when I get a chance. And I will pray.

  7. There is not enough room in OUR country to peacefully co exist side by side with The Godless Communists on the left they must go, their time has come one way or the other God will strike them down.

Pray for God to rain down judgement on all who stand with the Godless Communists on the Left who have temporarily stolen the controls of our nation Obama and all who stand with him, may they be utterly destroyed and cast into hell fire and eternal damnation! Of Obama…8 May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. 9 May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. 10 May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes. May he be struck down like a dog in the street may justice be swift revenge is mine says the Lord may it come today, yesterday was not soon enough!

  8. I find it harrowing that anyone could think this is not porn. How desensitized one must become to consider it anything else. Prayer is the answer and a stand against such filth in schools. But praying against someone is dropping to their standard and unbiblical. Our fight is not against flesh and blood, and our arsenal is not anything the world uses but the mighty word of God where the darkness must respond and has no choice. I am gut wrenched at this. We simply could stoop no lower. Pray friends for the hearts of these hardened “educators” to soften and turn from their wicked ways… Deut. 6 gives us all we need to know about whose job it is to teach and under what authority. I hope more and more people who can, will remove their kids from school and take this on themselves…

  9. The bible is FULL of rape, incest, and pedophilia, not to mention slavery and murder, much of it sanctioned by your god. It’s pretty funny that you chose to overlook that fact.

    1. Lynn, I agree that there is rape, incest, murder, and many other sorts of sexual sin and depravity in the Bible. However, it is not sanctioned by God. As a pastor, I do study the Bible quite a bit. 😉 If you will read the Bible – and I will give you all the references to every incident if you wish – you will see that God does NOT sanction, but condemns such actions. In fact, he destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of the depravity and sexual sin that had overtaken the city.
If you would honestly like to study this in the Bible, please let me know and I will happily supply you with all of the Bible references regarding these specific issues. I will even supply you with a Bible if you give me your address. Just leave a message on this blog and I will read it but not post/approve it so your privacy will not be violated.
